Media Matters for America is a liberal/socialist organization geared to destroy anyone who states conservative viewpoints in the media. MMFA primarily reaches this objective by forcing young college interns to sit and listen to Rush Limbaugh everyday and post any statements he says out-of-context. Then, all the MMFA subscribers go to the MMFA website and listen to, or read, a 5 minute transcript of Rush’s show or statements made by other conservative thinkers. Finally, this process climaxes when the subscribers go on a blogging tantrum about how fat Rush is, or they get off topic and whine about how terrible America is because of Capitalism.
What is most ironic about this phenomenon is that MMFA’s stated purpose is to dispel conservative misinformation and bias in the media. But, MMFA is very open about the fact that it only attacks conservatives, or those who disagree with liberals. So, in essence, its subscribers are reading a biased website intended to objectively dispel bias in the media. In fact, if you go to their website today, you’re bound to find statements that aren’t biased or based on falsities; they are objectively true statements made by members of the media whom MMFA disagrees. This begs the question, “Why don’t the subscribers just listen to the conservative shows themselves?” “Why go through a third-party website to tell them what someone said?”
Well, I’ve reached a conclusion after spending a few months reading the blogs on MMFA: most of these subscribers don’t know what the hell their talking about. What I’ve noticed is that most of the subscribers openly refuse to listen to anyone whom they disagree because they believe it to be “hate speech.” It is amazing, however, to think that the greatest percentage of those who hate conservative talk radio have never listened to it.
Nevertheless, MMFA serves its subscribers well. It reinforces the notion that all conservatives are hatemongers without its subscribers listening to conservatives and risking agreeing with their statements when put in context. In essence, MMFA are the earplugs for the intellectually lazy who refuse to hear both side of an issue in its entirety.
