ABC News recently decided to rekindle the catfight between Senator John Edwards and Ann Coulter. Supposedly, John Edwards called her a “she-devil,” but then said that he should not engage in personal attacks. It is unbelievable how political reporters allow him to take both sides of every issue.
Amazingly, we also learn that John Edwards, who wants to be the most powerful man in the world, is proud that his wife fights his battles for him. Supposedly, Elizabeth Edwards stood up to Ann Coulter on MSNBC with Chris Matthews. So, we must assume that he will send his wife to North Korea the next time they fire a missile.
What is worse is that Ann Coulter never said anything recently about Edwards. It is John Edwards, a Senator of the United States, who is using Coulter as a tool to fire up his base. It is extremely low for a Presidential Candidate to attack a private citizen in order to rally supporters.
Nevertheless, the “elite” media has turned into Jerry Springer and finagles us with this irrelevant story. Had the ABC news read the Wall Street Journal, a real source of news, they would have learned from Christopher Cooper that:
“Democrat John Edwards has regularly attacked subprime lenders, particularly those that have filed foreclosure suits against victims of Hurricane Katrina. But as an investor, Mr. Edwards has ties to lenders foreclosing on Katrina victims.
The Wall Street Journal has identified 34 New Orleans homes whose owners have faced foreclosure suits from subprime-lending units of Fortress Investment Group LLC. Mr. Edwards has about $16 million invested in Fortress funds, according to a campaign aide who confirmed a more general Federal Election Commission report. Mr. Edwards worked for Fortress, a publicly held private-equity fund, from late 2005 through 2006.”
So it appears that John Edwards is making millions off of Katrina victims. I think that might have been a relevant story considering Edwards himself pledges to clean up New Orleans. Yet, the reptilian Edwards said that when he first joined Fortress, “I made clear that I didn’t want to have anything I was investing in to be antilabor or involved in predatory lending practices.” But he added that he didn’t fully understand the firm’s complex operations, saying: “They’re diverse. They’re very diverse.”
Who is Edwards fooling? This was not a blind trust. He had to have known his investments. If he didn’t, then he is too inept to be running for President and controlling our tax dollars. Maybe he can run for Attorney General instead; evidently the Attorney General does not require any knowledge of anything.
Lastly, if ABC News’ reporting on Edwards were not bad enough, ABCNEWS.com misquoted Ann Coulter a second time. They used this quote without providing any context: “If I'm gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.” If the quote is reads out-of-context the way ABCNEWS used it, it can only be assumed that Ann Coulter wanted Edwards to be attacked by terrorists. But, in context it is a totally different story.
In context, Ann was talking about Bill Maher who said that he thought it would be good if Vice President Cheney was killed in a trip to Afghanistan. Ann complained that the mainstream media did not think that was a hateful enough comment to be discussed. So, instead, Ann Coulter said, “If I'm gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.” In context, the joke makes sense.
As usual, the mainstream media deliberately deceives its audience thinking they would not notice. What they do not seem to understand is that the people who listen to Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are the same people who watch their show. Stunts like this with Coulter and Edwards demonstrate why people are turning to alternative sources to receive their hard news. Maybe the media would learn that this is why they are losing ratings; their audience no longer trusts them. But, the elitists continue to tell the audience, “The customer is always wrong and too stupid to know what good Journalism is.”
