Michael Vick is probably one of the greatest athletes ever to enter the National Football League. Nevertheless, the man tortures and mutilates dogs on the side, while people bet on it. Evidently, Michael Vick thought this was a good way to spend his time outside the gym.

My major problem with Vick is not only the dogs he tortures, but the end result of promoting this behavior. Notably, these abused dogs are often let out into the neighborhood and attack people or other animals. As a result, Legislatures pass breed-specific legislation to kill all dogs that look like Pit Bulls.

In Denver, Colorado, family dogs were taken from peoples’ homes and killed because the Legislatures thought the problem was the dogs, not the people. Nobody seems to remember that the American Pit Bull was the dog of WWII, Helen Keller owned a Pit Bull as a therapy dog (Pit Bulls are still used as therapy dogs in Europe), Pit Bulls were filmed in the movies “Homeward Bound” and “Little Rascals,” Jack Dempsy, Teddy Roosevelt, Michael J. Fox, Rachel Ray, and Jack Johnson owned Pit Bulls, and Pit Bulls are still used by police in Europe instead of German Shepherds because they are easier to train.

The American Temperament Test Society provides temperament testing around the country for dog breeds, and gives a passing score for the entire breed based on the percentage of passed over failed within total number of the particular breed tested. As of December 2003, the American Pit Bull Terrier has a current passing rate of 83.9%, and the American Staffordshire Terrier passes at 83.2%. In comparison, The Golden Retriever passing rate is 83.2%.

So, while many people who understand these facts think Michael Vick should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, liberal sportscasters and pundits like Keith Olbermann ask that Michael Vick be removed from prison. On top of this nonsense, white pundits call black pundits on their shows to defend Vick because of his race.

Even the NAACP, is getting on the bandwagon. R.L. White, president of the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP, said his organization does not condone dogfighting or any other illegal activity, but he told reporters that Vick should be given a chance to redeem himself.

"In some instances, I believe Michael Vick has received more negative press than if he would've killed a human being," White said. "The way he is being persecuted, he wouldn't have been persecuted that much had he killed somebody."


How is the NAACP "advancing" blacks in America by defending Vick?

Ann Coulter said it best in her book, “Godless: The Church of Liberalism,” when referring to the savage Willie Horton. Horton was furloughed out of jail by Michael Dukakis, after being given a life sentence without the possibility of parole for sadistically stabbing someone to death. Horton, after being let out of prison by Dukakis, broke into a home, attacked the husband and beat and raped the wife.

Instead of agreeing that Horton should have been behind bars, Liberals attacked George Bush, Sr. for mentioning Dukakis’ poor judgment with Willie Horton. They claimed Bush exploited race to get elected. The following is taken from page 70-71 of “Godless: The Church of Liberalism.”

What some might say is racist is the liberal idea that blacks should be required to defend the worst elements of their race. White people are never put in a position of having to defend white scum.

Timothy McVeigh? Sure, go ahead, kill him!
Jeffery Dahmer? Kill him!
John Wayne Gacy? Kill him!
Robert Alton Harris? Kill him!

Why do blacks have to support Willie Horton? Who made that rule? It’s not as if white people were looking at Horton and saying, “This shows what all blacks are like.” What white people were saying was: This shows what idiot liberals like Michael Dukakis are like. As Alan Keyes said, when Democrats “look at Willie Horton they see a black man. When I look at him, I see a rapist and a murderer.”


I think the same lessons apply here with Michael Vick. Why are blacks being asked to defend this man? What he did was deplorable, and he should be punished. End of story.
