One of the newest Socialist leaders today is Naomi Klein. She writes for the Nation Magazine and has also written a new book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism. Well, I read her book, and realized when I was finished that it is entirely based on nothing.
She uses no historical evidence in her book whatsoever to demonstrate that socialism has ever worked. Every time it is tried it leads to poverty and/or famine.
In essence, her argument is that socialism and the Left did not lose the battle of ideas; it lost a real violent war. There is simply no evidence of this considering that people voluntarily immigrate to free capitalist countries from Countries that implement the policies that she advocates. Nobody immigrates to Communist countries like Cuba from capitalist countries.
