On HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher Friday Night, Travis Smiley made the absurd argument that after "They" disinvited Martin Luther King to the White House "They" shot him dead. Bill Maher, thinking that Travis Smiley must have misspoke, gave Smiley an opportunity to retract his statements. Travis said that he could make the argument. Consequently, Bill Maher called him a nut!
What argument is Travis Smiley talking about? The government did not shoot Martin Luther King! It was some crazy white racist, end of story; there is no other argument to be made.
This is like the nonsense spewed regarding the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It was really simply what happened with him too. John F. Kennedy was vehemently anti-communist and a communist shot him dead. Instead, the Left in this country, including Dan Rather and Oliver Stone, blamed it on hatred in Dallas or other nonsensical conspiracies. There is such a problem with the intellectuals on the Left who need to overanalyze everything.
I am sorry Travis, you lost all credibility with your statements. Moreover, your defense of Reverend Wright was despicable too. Had there been one person on Maher's show who leaned remotely Right-of-Center, he or she would have made you look like an abject idiot. You are very lucky that Maher covered for you. It was just pathetic.
