Dear John,
Dear Senator McCain,
Although I did not vote for you in the primaries, I have begrudgingly done my best to support you in every way possible. Moreover, after you vetted Sarah Palin, virtually all of us thanked you for solidifying the future of the Republican Party. But, over the last few weeks, you have done nothing to demonstrate that you are seriously working to win this election. In fact, you have been an abject embarrassment.
Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, two government backed entities, failed. Thankfully for you, you are in the clear and even warned us about their instability a few years ago. Conversely, Barack Obama and the Democrats have their fingerprints all over this mess; they took enormous sums of money from the two entities. Any moderately intelligent person would use this as a knockout blow to Barack Obama's campaign.
No, not you though. You're the great maverick who decided to do the impossible.
You, with unbelievable audacity, turn around and spend three weeks bashing George Bush, greed, Wall Street, and the SEC chairman. Last week, you tell us that you admire Al Gore and would seek his counsel if elected. Finally, you sign on to the largest pork bill in United States history and tell us it is an improvement from the same bill, minus the pork.
Senator McCain, you are demonstrating that you want to lose this election, and it is certainly not for the better of the country. Instead, it is due to your own arrogance and stupidity.
Not only have you acted like an amateur, you make the erroneous assumption that we are all economic illiterates. Read my lips and repeat after me:
"When a business cannot fail because it is backed up by the government it will make really stupid decisions. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae had government backed loans so they could not fail. As a result they lent to everyone under the sun and some who did not even have jobs. Then when those people could not pay their loans, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae went under and asked for the taxpayers to bail them out. The other investment entities who fell along the way owned many of the bad mortgage backed securities."
I want you to memorize this paragraph and just read it to the American people. That is it. Anyone with or without a GED will understand how we got to where we are today after hearing you say exactly what I wrote. Again, you treat us like infants and blame this on greed, something that had nothing to do with the crisis.
What makes this so irritating Senator McCain is that you talk about service to our Country. But, you are not serving anyone right now but yourself. You will not be serving the people my attacking amorphous buzz words like greed.
This is no longer about you Senator McCain. My children many years from now will have to put up with the disaster that Barack Obama will create. Only you can stop him.
At your acceptance speech you told us to stand up and fight for your Country. Well, we have fought for you Senator McCain, and we are sick and tired of you stabbing us in the back. We are waiting for you to fight for us. Until you realize that, expect to lose this November.
Sincerely,
D.A.
